Intensified China USA rivalry will bring fundamental shifts in the world in years ahead. Prof.
Dr. Tang Zhimin, director of CASPIM, shares his views in one of his recent papers:
Intensified China USA rivalry in almost every areas of international relations (Table 1) will
bring fundamental shifts in the world in years ahead.
Intensified China USA rivalry may be explained and predicted by the dynamics of major
forces: the position and actions of public opinions, media, politician, strategist and
business group in USA, and possible reactions of China (Table 2), as well as those of
China and reactions of USA (Table 3).
USA needs a clear China strategy which makes sense to itself, its alliance and the
international community. Demonizing China may be possible but aiming to replace CCP
with a regime in the model of western democracy is hardly practical and even not a
preferred solution for the majority of Chinese people. A strategy of coexistence,
cooperation and competition is called for. The world needs a China which respects
human rights and rule of law, which is a thriving market, an inspiring source of innovation,
and a responsible partner in global wealth creation and governance. It will be a blessing if
the intensified China-USA rivalry may help to shape China in this direction.
